Works 1

Immersed in color and zest, my childhood adventures and playfulness were cultivated in a subjective roller-coaster. Growing up in the shadow of tribal tents and away from city facades but that nomadic lifestyle that I witnessed as a child hardly exists anymore. The tribes do not migrate in the way that they used to.
The collapse of this nomadic culture has left a deep mark on me and I have undertaken several research projects including long-term and wide-spread field studies on the tribes of Fars, Kohkiloyeh & Boyer-Ahmad, and Chahar Mahal Bakhtiari to sooth my own sense of loss.

I study and reconstruct the patterns and compositions of woven articles of different tribes; namely, Ghashghaie, Bakhtiari, and Baloochi and I have now settled for Kerman’s Pattedouzi. I record, and preserve and meantime weave my own narratives. I consider myself a craftswoman and while I wonder, I also am hesitant.

In my world the clouds have brought rain and overpassed hindrances. The colors reflect the soil and the sky. Nature is alive and breathes in and characters often tiptoe out of the frames. A sense of wonder, and ever present memories, prevail upon reality. Whether it is a reflection of a parchment from times past or a piece of tomorrow, I can’t say.
